Who we are
Lifeguard, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is unique platform that represents the first ever effort to provide the infrastructure, collaboration tools, and incentives needed to enable and encourage peer-reviewed science, focused on complex risks to human health and the environment, on a massive scale. Our vision is to create a world where multi-disciplinary teams collaborate to conduct peer-reviewed scientific research that finds defective or harmful products and by-products and prevents them from ending up in the hands of consumers, being exposed to workers in occupational settings, and harming the environment. If we had only known about the harms of asbestos as early as the 1930s, we could have saved lives, companies, and industry and had a more resilient society as a result.
The platform harnesses the collective intelligence of scientists, subject matter experts, and citizen scientists around the world through broadcast search crowdsourcing challenges. Our model provides an independent, open, and exhaustive research process for identifying emerging risks to human life and the environment.
